I was asked to create a tumblr account for uni today, and I personally think it’s features are much better than wordpress, as well as its user-friendliness. I may or may not continue to post here but will definatley be posting on my tumblr account from now.

Posted in Uncategorized on July 18, 2009 by ashesinthesnowLast night I watched the film Pi, directed by Darren Aronofsky. The plot was average but the grainy black and white cinematography was unreal. I like this video that I stumbled across. A Boards of Canada track was assigned to the clip making it even better!
Smashing Lights
Posted in Uncategorized on July 17, 2009 by ashesinthesnowSaw Hopeless again last night. Everyone loves them, or should anyway. Amazing band
Lots of people are also talking about the new Break Even album, which is totally understandable. If it is hyped it is for every good reason. 5/5, nothing to put down on this album and it has become one of my favorite hardcore releases. I listen to it about 3 times through everyday.
Walking Walking Walking
Posted in Uncategorized on July 7, 2009 by ashesinthesnowToday, instead of sitting on the computer, achieving nothing at all, I decided to be a tourist and take the 6km Coogee to Bondi coastal walk, which weaves its way through Tamarama, Bronte, the amazing Waverley Cemetery, Clovelly and finally past the Bondi Ice Bergs. I have done the walk a few times, but not during the week, which meant it was less crowded. I Mainly did this to take a few snaps and soak in the scenery…literally as it started raining for a bit. I haven’t been to the Eastern Suburbs for a while, which is an extraordinary part of Sydney. Amazing beaches, restaurants, diversity in the people and housing. I would really love to live in the area. Bondi Beach always makes me feel like im on holidays, and I think I will spend much more time there next summer.
Here are the snaps;

This Dude has the most wack ‘house’ I have ever laid eyes on
What is it worth?
Posted in Uncategorized on July 3, 2009 by ashesinthesnowI have to admit that I have been a sucker for being a materialist, heavy consumer. After Losing my position at Bunnings, who frankly do not give a fuck about the community/environment which they totally brainwash their customers into believing, I have learnt to value my money much more. I do feel satisfaction after purchasing clothes, new technology etc, as the vast majority of people would. However, lately satisfaction has come from those things which are not purchased over the counter. Being in places that I dig being in and spending time with people I enjoy spending time with, is where true happiness, for me, stems from. This is obviously rotating around the constantly recycled terms ‘money doesn’t buy happiness’ and ‘the best things in life are free’, but fuck it is true. You can really do things on the cheap, budget side and still be living it up.
As I am always in the city, I constantly see business men/women exiting from extensively overpriced hotels, baring designer suits. I understand that this is all a necessity in the ‘professional’ appearance and part of the apparent ‘real world’, as no one would take you seriously in high end business dealings if this mask is not applied but it honestly makes me sick. I sometimes listen to business people’s conversations just to hear how much shit they talk. Up tight, heartless and oblivious to what their life has to offer, they continue down a routine filled lifestyle, with a family holiday overseas injected once or twice a year, that seems to be a forced activity. So you make this excessive amount of money, but what do you spend it on? the car you drive to work?, the television you can hardly watch because you are constantly living your ‘real world’ lifestyle? clothes, toys for the kids you never see? These are deadshit humans that in my opinion, have so many insecurities in their life, they can only receive validation from work success. The majority seem to have all of the same hobbies; Drink beer/wine with workmates, buy pointless ego driven goods such as big cars, play golf, a favorite TV show and making love their partner, which hardly happens because they are too stressed about tomorrow’s shift. The other day I was sitting in Pitt St mall and a couple of heavily tattooed and pierced guys walked past. Two businessmen which saw them took part in a very posh giggle and made a degrading comment about them. I was immensely frustrated.
Although it looks like I am labeling all business people as brain dead/boring/unworthy, this is far from the point. Im sure many have lived and are living lives which they feel are rewarding, adventurous and exciting, and if that is what you find as a positive lifestyle, go with it. I don’t care what you do with your life, It is not mine or anyone else’s business, but I feel as though everyone should challenge themselves and try to break boundaries that they have not crossed yet, and if a corporate lifestyle is setting limitations on this, you are blocking what could possibly make you a better person with more interesting and exciting experiences. I am sick of boring people. I don’t want to fit this mould, but maybe it is inevitable? There has to be a distinct line between work and fun, but i don’t want work to control my fun.
Generic rant, whatever. I sound like a hippie and have totally sidetracked on the intended topic of this blog.
I’ll probably just end up being like this anyway. Just another fucking human.

The Birth and the Death of Day
Posted in Uncategorized on July 3, 2009 by ashesinthesnowJust cruised around Newtown with Michael today with intentions to go to Green Square and shoot some abandoned warehouses, which sounds cliched and lame but would be fun regardless. It never happened because it got too late etc, but I’m still really keen on going and will soon. Here are some snaps from the day;
Lunch at Istanbul on King is always good.

The Turkish video clips they play their are pretty out there. Once I saw this one, and was nearly in tears laughing.
We then headed down to May Lane, which is full of amazing street art and is located right near St Peters station. You should definitely check this out if you have not already. Axle Whitehead was getting hooked up with some promos there as well, which was cool to suss out.

The Bridge
Posted in Uncategorized on July 1, 2009 by ashesinthesnowThere is something really chilling about this video. I have not seen the whole documentary, but definitely will soon. The last 30 seconds is genuinely upsetting and the imagery has not left me since I watched it for the first time a couple of weeks ago.
My city
Posted in Uncategorized on July 1, 2009 by ashesinthesnowFirst of all, apologies for the long amount of time it has been since last posting. When I go over my internet limit nothing seems to want to work online.
I took a few snaps around my city, Sydney, about a week ago. Im so happy that I can sit on a train for 20 minutes and have everything I need within walking distance.
Unthink this
Posted in Uncategorized on June 15, 2009 by ashesinthesnowA few new releases I am amazingly keen on;
Junius- The Martyrdom of a Catastrophist
They recently uploaded a new song on their facebook and it blew my mind. They really know how to craft emotion into music, and although it is a cliched remark and often said about them, it couldn’t be any further from the truth. Since I got my hands on their last record I have been hooked. Such a timeless band that totally widened my musical taste, to bands like Interpol, Editors, White Lies etc
Here is some studio footage
Minus the Bear – Unknown
This is going to be fucking amazing. Dave Knudson is just unstoppable. I have been sussing MTB’s twitter everyday for little studio updates they like to throw up. Their last effort, Planet of Ice had an extensive amount of thought and work put into it which clearly which clearly showed itself . I have a strong feeling the new album will meet and go beyond Planet of Ice. Not too much has been said about this album, with a tracklisting or art work yet to be released…as far as I know
Here is some of that footage
Caspian-Tertia
Post-Rock that gives me the shivers. Alike Junius, they introduced me to instrumental post-rock (as well as Red Sparrows) and I havent looked back from it since. This will rule.

Pre-Release Short film
Foals – Im pretty sure I heard something on the internet about a new release. Holy shit….thats it. Will be out of this world.
A new song
I listen to this song every night. Really is something about it..
Should also be attending Earth Crisis at the Manning bar on the 19th and Deerhunter on the 20th at the Annandale. Sick of 90% of people at hardcore shows though.
